Course Description
The American court system will be described. Major cases of the liberal Warren Court in the 1960's will be covered and contrasted with the current conservative outlook of the U.S. Supreme Court, including the reaction of the State of Washington Courts. The basics in criminal laws and trials will be explained and contrasted with the vagueness and simple procedures in land use cases. We will then cover the requirements the U.S. Supreme Court has imposed in Guantanamo, discuss whether there is a natural law that applies and clarify President Obama's choices (simple military commission hearings or a trial?).
