Course Description
Elevate your understanding of music. Better appreciate the sounds, melodies, textures, rhythms and dynamics of the music you love! In this course, we will introduce music composition forms in order to make listening more fun and deepen the listening experience. Knowing commonly used forms allows the listener to follow a piece of favorite music with a keener ear for understanding the composer's direction, developments, expansions and variations. It also enables the listener to be aware of more subtle aspects of a piece and to recognize historical periods of composition, i.e. Baroque, Classical, etc. The forms that we will cover include ABA, ground bass, minuet and trio with a brief introduction to other dance forms, fugue, sonata-allegro and free forms.
