Course Description
Social Networks and Social Networking have existed since the dawn of time. They are the means through which people interact, communicate and get things done. Technology has been steadily improving the ease, efficiency and effectiveness with which people are able to do so. The Web has had a big impact, cutting through geographic, political and cultural boundaries, linking people and almost instantly providing them with access to information. Web based tools such as email and instant messaging have gained widespread adoption. Web 2.0 is continuing on this trajectory, with tools and technologies such as Blogs, Podcasts and Social Networking going main-stream. This seminar will provide an introduction to Social Networking and its impact on the everyday life of people as consumers and professionals: business and government. Attendees will gain an understanding of the concepts and jargon associated with this increasingly important and vital phenomenon; decide whether social networking is for them; learn how to choose from the man available networks and how best to leverage these tools and technologies.
