Course Description
Past, present and emerging directions in architecture, landscape architecture and urban planning will be illustrated and described. The relations between what is designed, planned and built and our culture will be considered. A tour of the UW campus and a review of the history of planning the Campus will be included. The goal is to sharpen ones perception and understanding of the built environment in which we live.
Instructors
Lee Copeland
Copeland is a nationally recognized urban designer. He has been responsible for influencing and shaping campuses and civic places throughout the country. A former Dean and Professor of Architecture and Planning at the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Washington, he shaped core curriculum for urban designers. Copeland has been the recipient of numerous national awards for excellence in architecture.
Kristine Kenney
Kenney is currently the University of Washington's Landscape Architect. In this role, she is responsible for the creation of long-range plans for design and development of outdoor environments for all three University of Washington campuses. Kenney is credited with designing outdoor environments that respect precious resources including open spaces, collectable plants and trees and water. She has designed cutting edge outdoor environments at Yale University, University of Rhode Island, University of Massachusetts, Amherst College and for many more local, national and international colleges and universities.
